Urban Farm: Gathering
The project was developed in cooperation with Southside Community Land Trust, the Southside Community Land Trust Youth Group and Trinity Square Together, as well as other organizations and individuals that are stakeholders in the greenery management and public space management of the neighborhood. The members of Urban Farm: Gathering held workshops and meetings with all those who work in the area to design a sidewalk garden that would beautify Hayward street whilst simultaneously promoting the importance of urban farming as a contemporary practice. The planters designed by the Urban Farm: Gathering group were fabricated at RISD and subsequently installed on site during Care for the Square. Care for the Square is Trinity Square Together’s bi-annual event where South Providence community members and volunteers can take part in a day of beautifying the Trinity Square area. The Spring edition of the event included the planting of 14 street trees donated by Providence Neighborhood Planting Program (PNPP), building a sidewalk garden on Hayward Street, cleaning-up and raising headstones in Grace cemetery, and two public art installations being spearheaded by The Avenue Concept.
