Nursing the Landscape
Nusing the Landscape portrays the role of architecture as an educational and cultural tool. Kfaryassine is an area of rich agricultural history that deteriorated as buildings increased. Nursing the Landscape is a project that provides children and elders with a chance to experience the the area's agricultural heritage. The terraced site satisfies the agricultural needs housing the various buildings within. The program is divided into three parts: kindergarten, nursing home, and elderly residential. The nursery is closest to the school allowing parents to drop off their children efficiently. The nursing home is in the center of the project providing a secure place for elders requiring constant care. The elderly residential makes way for easy accessibility for its residents. Ramps integrated in the landscape create feasible circulation throughout the whole project for both elders and children. Each building is treated as an individual block yet the promenade links the diverse spaces by connecting their different levels. To emphasize the lightness of the buildings in the landscape, the facades are made from white polycarbonate.
