Diagonal Jounieh
Diagonal Jounieh adds a new directionality to Jounieh showing the public the contrast between contemporary and traditional architecture. The building provides a powerful statement that defies the repetitiveness of the existing buildings. It contains a public library with skylights that provide reading spaces. A guesthouse on the top floor separates itself yet retains a connection with the surrounding buildings and their residents. The ground floor is recessed one meter with the library volume above it elevated three meters to not obstruct the people of the street level's vision. This recessed plane creates a public space for visitors to relax and enjoy the sea view. Aligned with the building on its right is the library volume. It contains reading areas as well as a small conference area. Its roof is an area where visitors may read a book or relax outdoors. Furthermore, the guesthouse volume is elevated two meters above the library so that the residents of the surrounding buildings have their line of vision maintained. It is a private space with its own entrance from the existing building.
