Deployable Wall
The monolith transforms from a rigid stationary column into a flexible, shapeable wall. The splayed boxes hold acoustical baffles that diffuse sound, are operable, and swivel allowing light to penetrate. A gradient of color exists on the baffles directing users though space. Each baffle is designed with laser cut perforations which expose the felt backing attached to the veneer. Within the void of the baffle itself lies fiberglass insulation used to further dampen sound. The wall acts as a space definer unlike a conventional foldable wall system. The system can be used for months at a time with the flexibility to be reconfigured when a new project or studio arrangement needs to occur. The wall is a functional freestanding divider that suppresses noise with the potential to swiftly redefine a room's usage and how one might travel through a space. Unlike other foldable walls, the manufactured sound baffles with user operability become flexible space-makers.
